Transfer Day Acupuncture
Dr. Schiff comes to your fertility clinic and treats you before and after the embryo transfer, so the one day that matters most is not spent driving between offices.
Acupuncture on the day of embryo transfer is the most studied piece of fertility acupuncture, and it is the one piece that has to happen in a narrow window: once shortly before the transfer, once shortly after. Doing that in the office means two trips on an already long day. Doing it on site means you stay where you are.
Dr. Susan G. Schiff, A.P., DOM, is board certified by the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (ABORM) and has worked alongside South Florida’s reproductive endocrinologists for over 20 years. On-site transfer day treatment is by appointment only.

What Happens
on the Day
Transfer day treatment is one appointment in two parts. Dr. Schiff meets you at the clinic before your scheduled transfer and treats you in a quiet space there, then treats you again once the transfer is done and you are resting.
The session before the transfer is about calm and blood flow: settling the nervous system, lowering the stress hormones that work against implantation, and increasing circulation to the uterus. The session after is about helping the body hold that state through the hours when the embryo is settling in.
In a study at the Christian-Lauritzen-Institute in Ulm, Germany, the group that received acupuncture on the day of embryo transfer had a 42.5% rate of conception, compared with 26.3% in the group that had the transfer alone. That is one study's result, not a promise about any cycle, and it is why transfer day is part of every IVF plan we build.
If you are already a patient, transfer day is scheduled as part of your cycle plan. If you are not, you can book transfer day on its own. Either way, tell us your transfer date as soon as your clinic gives it to you.
A short treatment at the clinic, timed to finish before you are called back. Points chosen for relaxation and uterine blood flow.
A second treatment while you rest, to keep the body calm and support implantation through the first hours.
Dr. Schiff visits fertility clinics across Palm Beach County and the surrounding area. Ask us whether your clinic is one we visit, and we will confirm before your transfer date.
Some clinics do not allow outside practitioners. When that is the case, we schedule the two treatments in the Wellington office around your transfer time instead.

Transfer day works best when it is planned, not squeezed in. Here is how we set it up.
The clinic's schedule decides the timing, so everything below happens once you have a transfer date. The earlier we have it, the easier it is to hold the day.
Tell Us Your Transfer Date
Call or text as soon as the clinic sets it. Transfer dates move, and we hold the day and adjust with you if the clinic changes it.
We Confirm With the Clinic
We check that your clinic allows on-site treatment and where it can take place. If it cannot, we book both sessions in the Wellington office instead.
Before the Transfer
Dr. Schiff meets you at the clinic ahead of your scheduled time and treats you before you are called back.
After the Transfer
A second treatment once the transfer is done, while you are still resting at the clinic.
The Two-Week Wait
Treatment in the days after transfer can continue in the office, to help the body stay settled through the wait.
New to the Practice
You do not have to be an existing patient. A brief phone consultation before transfer day is all we need to plan your treatment.
Questions patients askbefore booking transfer day treatment.
Usually, yes. Most fertility clinics in the area are used to acupuncturists on transfer day, but each has its own policy on where and when it can happen. We confirm with your clinic before the date, and if on-site treatment is not allowed we schedule both sessions in the Wellington office instead.
Each treatment is short, on the order of twenty to thirty minutes, and timed so the first finishes before you are called back and the second happens while you are resting afterward. It does not delay the clinic's schedule.
Yes. Transfer day can be booked on its own. We ask for a brief phone consultation beforehand so Dr. Schiff knows your history and your protocol, and many patients then continue with treatment through the two-week wait and the first trimester.
Yes. The treatment is the same for fresh and frozen embryo transfers. What changes is the lead-up, and if you are on a medicated frozen cycle we can begin treatment in the weeks before to support the lining.
Coverage for acupuncture varies by plan. We can verify your benefits before transfer day through the form on our New Patient Forms page. Call or text for current fees for on-site treatment.
As soon as you have a date. Transfer days cluster, and Dr. Schiff can only be at one clinic at a time. If your date changes, tell us and we move with it.
